Welland Weekly is a free local newsletter and website for Welland, Ontario. This page explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We follow Canada's privacy law (PIPEDA) and anti-spam law (CASL).
What we collect
- Newsletter sign-ups. When you join, your email address goes to Beehiiv, the service that sends the newsletter. Beehiiv also tells us which issues are opened and which links are clicked, so we know what readers find useful.
- Forms on this site. When you use the contact, advertise, submit an event or business directory forms, we keep what you type (for example your name, email and message) so we can reply or publish the listing you asked for. To stop spam, we keep a scrambled version of your IP address, not the address itself.
- Ads and measurement. We use the Meta Pixel from Meta (Facebook and Instagram). It records that a page was visited, and when someone joins the newsletter, so we can measure and improve our ads on Facebook and Instagram. Meta may connect this to your Meta account under its own privacy policy.
- Basic site data. Our host, Cloudflare, processes standard technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and keep it secure.
What we don't do
We don't sell your personal information. We only email you if you signed up, and every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time with the link at the bottom of any issue.
- Limit Meta ad tracking in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings, or block cookies in your browser.
- Ask us what information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing [email protected].
Services we use
Beehiiv (newsletter), Meta (ads and the Meta Pixel), Cloudflare (hosting and form storage) and Buy Me a Coffee (tips, if you choose to leave one). Each handles data under its own privacy policy, and some store data outside Canada.
